The Charter Board

Shared Leadership

  • It takes a village!
  • CORE's vision and day-to-day operations only happens with the shared collaboration and leadership of three primary bodies. The combined effort of these groups makes decisions affecting everything from textbooks, instruction to facilities. In June of 2007 the Butte County Board of Education approved the petition for CORE Butte Charter School.  
  • The CORE Inc. board is the decision making body for CORE Placer Charter School.

  • The Charter Board meets on a regular basis in order to develop policies, approve the budget and assist in making major governance decisions regarding the school operations. CORE, Inc. is comprised of community members and parent members.

  • Board Member Biographies

      Neil Bledsoe
    • President, Board of Directors
    • Neil Bledsoe has had a career as an educator in Alaska as a School Administrator and a School Counselor. He has worked as a financial planner, trust manager and scholarship advisor in his own agency, Bledsoe Financial Services. He was the Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County, and he has also served as Board president on numerous boards including, Nevada City School of the Arts Governance Council, Southeast Alaska Youth Services, and the Alaska School Counselors Association. Neil is married to Karen, who is also an educator, and together they have raised three children ages 18, 20 and 24.
      Andy Norrell
    • Secretary
    • Andy Norrell has had a 35 year career working as an Electrical Engineer developing communications equipment and systems for various technology corporations. He is semi-retired and continues this work part time as a consultant. He is active in several music groups, and does volunteer work for various non-profit organizations such as KVMR and Hospitality House. He has always been interested in education, and believes in the personalized learning model.
      Jeannie Uchison
    • Treasurer
    • Jeanie was born in Michigan and raised in Southern California. She went to college in Ohio and graduated with a degree in early education K-8 and a minor in English. She married her college sweetheart right out of college and moved to New Mexico where she taught first grade for four years. After returning to California, her family settled down in the Colfax area and have been settled here for over eight years. She was actively searching for a perfect fit for her five children's schooling, trying everything from private and public schools to different charters as well as a school based homestudy. She feels CORE Placer's personalized learning approach is a perfect fit for her and her five children.
      Chris Johnsen
    • Community Member
    • Chris Johnsen has been an educator at the middle-school, high school, and college levels. He was a secondary school administrator and business manager. He helped develop a pilot school using the personalized/individualized model. Chris and his brother assist in the oversight of their family's scholarship fund at a California university. Chris and his wife, Caryl, who is also a retired educator, enjoy traveling. They tutor and volunteer at local schools. They have two children and four grandsons.
